Note: In all cases of cookie stealing, the original owners still had control of their accounts. This is because you can't obtain a password from cookie stealing. Since you don't know the victim's password, you can't change the password, change the e-mail address, or close the account. However, this is still a damaging method to hack people.
Tips on how to avoid getting hacked:
- Don't fall for phishing scams like this one: http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/1696/phishingdb3.png
YouTube will NEVER ask for your password or e-mail address. They already have it. Anybody who does this is trying to steal your account.
- Make your password hard to guess. Don't use real words. Use a combination of capital letters, lowercase letters, and numbers. Mixing them up in a random fashion makes your password harder to guess; however, it may also be difficult to remember. The longer the password, the harder it will be for someone to guess it.
- Change your password periodically.
- Don't visit strange links. It is known that a link exists that steals people's cookies. If your cookies are stolen, the hacker will have access to your account! If this happens, change your password.
